Adidas unveils next chapter in footwear innovation with CLIMACOOL LACED

Adidas has come a long way with it 3D printed footwear since the Futurecraft 3D in 2015. Ten years later the German apparel company has announced the release of the CLIMACOOL LACED, a new model that continues the company’s exploration of new shoe making methods. This casual shoe is produced using a single-material additive manufacturing process and is constructed as one piece without seams or joins.
The design integrates both the upper and midsole using the same material, applied layer by layer through a lattice structure. According to adidas, this structure allows for ventilation throughout the shoe, offering 360-degree airflow and a more adaptive fit. The shoe features an off-white base and a contrasting black lacing system intended to improve adjustability.
This is the second release using adidas' ADDITIVE manufacturing method, following the first CLIMACOOL shoe introduced in 2024. The process reportedly takes around 24 hours per pair and involves polymer spinning, baking and compression.
Adidas says the approach allows for more precise tailoring of different zones within the shoe, aiming to balance breathability, fit and support. Moreover, as the company notes on the product website, “CLIMACOOL wicks and disperses sweat for cool, dry and distraction-free performance.”
The CLIMACOOL LACED includes design elements such as ghost stripes and a simplified silhouette, reflecting a minimal aesthetic. Adidas states that the use of a single material and a fully integrated structure is intended to reduce complexity and improve comfort.
While the CLIMACOOL LACED is designed for casual wear, the company plans to expand the technology to performance models in the future.
And if you want to own a pair, all you need to do is head over to the Adidas South Africa to buy yourself a pair, keeping in mind that this privilege will set you back R3 300.
