When Apple debuted the iPhone X last month, one of the biggest talking points was its all-screen display. Along with a new OLED screen, the design choice forced the company to rethink the biometric access of the $999 device, with a facial recognition system utilised instead of the usual Touch ID setup that Apple uses for its phones. According to reports, Apple may be porting the Face ID technology to its new iPhones next year. 

The insider knowledge comes courtesy of Ming Chi-Kuo, via MacRumors, with the former a fairly reputable source for Apple news. When Touch ID first debuted on the iPhone X, Kuo noted that consumer response would ultimately affect Apple's decision to integrate the biometric system into its new devices. Now he appears more confident than before that Face ID will indeed be a fixture of 2018's iPhones. 

At this stage, however, it's unclear if those devices will also feature an all-screen display like the iPhone X. Furthermore, given how costly newly sourced materials and elements used for the iPhone X became, it may also force the price of the new iPhones up as well, with production capacity another concern.
