Andy Rubin's Essential smartphone expected to debut on 30 May
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 26 May 2017 | Categories: newsAndroid co-founder Andy Rubin stirred up quite a bit of interest when he teased an image of a mystery phone a couple of months ago. Since the image was posted, Rubin announced that his new company Essential, would be releasing an all-new device.
Up until now we were unsure when the date of that reveal would be, but a recent Twitter message from Essential's newly created account says "something big" is coming on 30 May. As such, most people believe Rubin will officially be unveiling the mystery device, along with an OS that's said to be Android in nature.

As far as what the Essential phone will feature, much is conjecture at this point. That said, it's believed that the device will have a proprietary port that will serve as both a charging point and expanding the phone's functionality, according to The Verge.
As such, the Essential phone is shaping up to be a modular one. With Motorola the only real manufacturer still investing into modular mobile design with its Moto Z offering, having another player in the market wouldn't hurt.
Come 30 May, where Rubin is scheduled to speak at Recode's Code Conference, we should get a better idea of what Essential is all about.
