Apple Live Photos are now compatible with any website
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 21 April 2017 | Categories: newsApple Live Photos have been around for awhile now, ever since the company first debuted it on the iPhone 6s, but they've yet to fully catch on with users. This impending move could change things though, with 9to5mac detailing a JavaScript API that will allow any website to integrate Live Photos, creating a possible alternative to the wildly popular GIF.
Tumblr was one of the first platforms to support Live Photo integration, but now the images should be more ubiquitous, with developers capable of adding a Live Photo as a DOM element, just like any other normal photo or video they currently can.
With Google also supporting Live Photos, storing them via the Google Photos app, as well as adding GIF-like video looping with the Motion Stills feature for Apple devices, it should prove interesting to see if Live Photos become more popular.
