When Apple showcased its all-screen sporting iPhone X last month, one feature that attracted some attention was the Animoji, which utilised the device's 3D face scanning technology to allow users to interact with their chosen emoji.

A tad gimmicky, now the feature could be getting a new name, if a recent lawsuit is to be believed. According to Tokyo-based company Emonster, "Apple made the conscious decision to try to pilfer the name for itself," says their CEO Enrique Bonansea. Emonster filed a lawsuit this past week, claiming that the name of the iPhone X feature infringes upon the trademark it has for a similarly named emoji app which launched in 2014.  

Each feature works slightly differently, but it is the name that is in question here. Emonster asserts that Apple knew about their trademark, as the app exists within the Apple App Store. Furthermore, Emonster says Apple tried to purchase the name, but when they turned them down, the Cupertino-based company continued to use it anyway.

Emonster is reportedly asking for an undisclosed figure for damages, as well as an immediately block on Apple using the name going forward. For now, Apple has not officially commented on the situation.
