Batgirl flick gets new screenwriter to replace Joss Whedon
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 10 April 2018 | Categories: newsSo DC's plan to get The Avengers' Joss Whedon to write their upcoming Batgirl flick hasn't quite worked out. Whedon noted that after several months of work, he did not have a full story for the female superhero, and decided to step away from writing duties for the project.
Replacing Whedon is Christina Hodson (Unforgettable), according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), which means that pre-production for Batgirl is back underway. While we would have liked to have seen Whedon's script for the project come to fruition, it should be acknowledged that Hodson has some strong credentials of her own. To that end, three of her film scripts have made the annual Black List, which includes the best scripts from unproduced ventures.
That said, the current slate of DC films have failed to have the commercial and critical impact that Warner Bros. has been hoping for, with the exception of Wonder Woman. Whether or not Batgirl will follow a similar trend remains to be seen.
