Blizzard, a game developer famed for its real-time strategy franchises like Diablo, WarCraft and StarCraft, is making its first major multiplayer shooter - Overwatch. Details for the game debuted over a year ago, at BlizzCon 2014, and now the game has its release date all lined up. Overwatch is set to hit PS4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as Windows PCs on 24 May.

Blizzard has run multiple betas for Overwatch over the past year, and the game's May-slated release is now different, with those gamers who pre-order it, receiving access to a beta on 3 May. Precisely how close to the finished product the beta will be is unclear, but we're assuming it will be as complete as one could hope.

Overwatch also shares a release date with Battleborn (hands-on), which also features a similar multiplayer arena for users to fight in. As for which one proves more successful, our money would have to be on Overwatch, given Blizzard's history with venturing into new game styles like Hearthstone (review).
