In the gaming pantheon of great real-time strategy titles, Blizzard has more than a few offerings of note. Chief among them is StarCraft, which introduced us to the worlds of the Zerg, Terran and Protoss races.

With it being 20 years since the first game in the franchise was unveiled, developer Blizzard has duly readied a remastered version for release. Confirming the news earlier today, Blizzard is aiming to release the new variant towards the middle of the year.

The Remastered StarCraft will feature new levels of graphics, serving up to a 4K Ultra High Definition resolution. Other enhancements are said to include better sound, along with updates and additions to the illustrations and maps. Added to this will be matchmaking abilities for online multiplayer functionality, as well as being able to connect to the Blizzard app.

While Blizzard has gone to great lengths to vastly improve the graphics of the game, they have stated that they've endeavoured to retain the same balance and gameplay that made the original such a hit.

Consisting of both StarCraft and the Brood War expansion, Blizzard will be releasing the Remastered title on Windows PC and Mac. The precise date of said launch though, remains unknown.
