Any comic book fan familiar with the work of Brian K. Vaughan, will no doubt know Y: The Last Man, a sixty part series he released via Vertigo comics with artist Pia Guerra, starting in 2002. The story has pinged around Hollywood for some time, but is now set to be developed into a TV series by US network FX.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, FX has teamed up with Vaughan as well as Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of American studio Color Force, to rework Y: The Last Man for television. At the moment, Vaughan is said to be on the prowl for a writer to assist in adapting the comic book series.

For those new to Y: The Last Man, it focuses on the journey of Yorick Brown, the only male survivor of a global plague that wiped out the entire planet's mammals with a Y chromosome (all the dudes essentially). Searching for many answers, as well as his lost love, Brown has a fair amount on his plate throughout the comic books.

Y: The Last Man has always held a lure to Hollywood, with Shia Labeouf seemingly signed on for the lead role in a movie adaptation several years ago, which ultimately floundered into nothing. The problem has always been how to present the story, as Y:The Last Man covers not only number of social issues, but softcover ones as well, running for more than 60 weeks during original production back in 2002.

Perhaps then, a television series is better suited for the comic book.
