Brie Larson tipped by many to play Captain Marvel
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 2 June 2016 | Categories: newsCaptain Marvel is one of Marvel Studio's most important films. If its schedule goes to plan, the company's first female-lead film will see a July 2018 debut. There is, however, the small issue of casting Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel's alter ego), with a number of actresses seemingly vying for the role. According to Variety, the front runner for the role is recent Best Actress Oscar winner Brie Larson (Room).
Sources at Variety say Marvel has had discussions with Larson over playing the part as one of the comic book's most important female superheroes, but no official comment has been made just yet. Whether or not fans of the character feel the same way about Larson in the role remains to be seen, with Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), UFC fighter Ronda Rousey (Furious 7) and Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) all being names bandied about.
Early reactions to the rumours look positive, and having the clout of an Oscar winner playing the role will no doubt be a good thing. For now, we have to wait and see if the rumours are true and whether Larson will suit up as Captain Marvel.
