Captain Marvel will feature Marvel's first female lead and director too
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 20 April 2017 | Categories: NewsMuch of the focus as far as Marvel movies are concerned at the moment, lies with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and the first Avengers: Infinity War films. Looking past those three movies though, is Captain Marvel, which will be the first female-led comic book movie that Marvel Studios produces.
The film already has its lead actress in the form of Brie Larson (Room, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), who will be playing Carol Danvers, as well as the eponymous superhero. With the film's release slated for 2019, now a director has been added to the production. To be more precise though, it will feature two directors, with Marvel opting for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, whose past efforts include Half Nelson and It's Kind of a Funny Story.
More familiar with indie projects, how the pair will fare in a big budget Marvel film remains to be seen.
