Spider-Man is easily Sony's most bankable superhero, which is why the studio likely greenlit an animated project for the webslinger with Into the Spider-Verse. When a teaser for the film dropped a few months ago, it showed some promise. Now that a fully fledged official trailer has landed online, this could be one of the better Spider-Man films in recent memory, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The focus for this movie is not Peter Parker, with Miles Morales instead being the main protagonist. Miles is still coming to grips with his powers, while also trying to deal with a police officer for a father. The universe that Morales exists in is separate from Parker's, but the two have a chance meeting with the older Spider-Man taking the younger one under his wing and teaching him. Also joining the action is Spider-Gwen (Gwen Stacy), whose recent run in the comic books has gone down a treat with readers.

Whether more variations of the wall crawler will also be included for this flick remains to be seen. What is clear though, is the distinctive style of animation, along with some very unique angles of Spider-Man traversing the New York skyline.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into cinemas in December, and could be the sleeper animated hit of the year.
