Keen for an action camera outside of the GoPro lineup? Perhaps Casio's latest offering will be of interest. Recently unveiled in Japan for action camera enthusiasts, the G'z Eye GZE-1, draws inspiration from the brand's iconic G-Shock watches, and features a similarly rugged body to match.
As far as video and photo taking ability goes, the G'z Eye GZE-1 is capable of recording in either 1080p at 30 fps or 480p at 120 fps, along with capturing 6 MP images, with an f/2.8 lens. While those number won't blow many away, this action camera's real party piece is its rugged design. To that end it can manage up to 50 metres underwater and has a shockproof rating that allows it to handle drops from up to four metres.
It's also compatible with Casio's Pro Trek Android Watch, which can be used as a viewfinder, should you happen to own one. Set at ¥42 000 in Japan, it's believed to cost around $400 in the States when it arrives in coming months. No word on a wider release just yet.
