When it comes to smartphone cameras (or any camera actually), DxOMark is often the go-to standard for comparisons. So what does the image quality reference site think of the Apple iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 8? Well as it turns out, the two flagship devices are fairly comparable when it comes to their cameras, each receiving a score of 94, ranking them in first place when it comes to smartphones.

While on the face of it, the scores make it look like both smartphones are equally matched, taking a closer look at DxOMark's reviews does reveal that each device have their own specific strengths and weaknesses.

The iPhone 8 Plus for example, was the first mobile device to achieve a score of 94, with its performance outdoors in bright light and video recording getting a shout out. In low light, however, DxOMark does make mention of slight underexposure.

Moving onto the Galaxy Note 8, it's secondary 12 MP camera on the rear was singled out for praise, along with its speedy autofocus and zooming capabilities. Strikes against the Note 8 were the white balance, particular while indoors.

While both devices scored highly, setting new records for mobile devices from DxOMark, it really comes down to a matter of preference, with the Note 8 good for portraits and fast moving scenes, and iPhone 8 Plus featuring a solid High Dynamic Range (HDR).
