Facebook introduces Live streaming for verified pages
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 18 December 2015 | Categories: newsIn August this year Facebook introduced its Live video feature for mobile devices. The service was initially launched for public users, with athletes, celebrities and social media wonderkids making the most of it. Now the service is porting over to verified pages, with news sites, media companies and brands allowed to jump aboard.
At the moment it is limited to iOS users only, but Live is expected to arrive on Android in coming weeks. In order to use the feature, users will be prompted to enter their iOS Facebook app and hit publish, then Live video. After that a quick description is need before broadcasting begins.
Users will also be able to see who is tuning into their Live broadcast, akin to Twitch, with a real-time stream of comments. Added to this, Facebook will allow users that like the verified page see the videos pop up in their News Feed page as well.
While the number of verified pages that will use the service are not known, we expect news agencies or more specifically roving reporters to adopt the chance to broadcast live.
