Find free Wi-Fi in Tshwane with an app for Android
By Staff Writer 15 June 2015 | Categories: newsProject Isizwe has announced that their app to help citizens in the Tshwane area find free Wi-Fi hotspots in the city is now available for Android devices, having previously only been available for Apple devices.
Apart from locating City of Tshwane Free Internet Zones, the app also shows the location of other points of interest such as clinics, libraries and sporting venues.
Zahir Khan, COO of Project Isizwe, says the fact that smartphones are becoming more affordable makes it possible for the youth of the city to make use of the free Wi-Fi offered by Project Isizwe.
“International research has found that the cost of data usually inhibits the access of the youth to information available on the internet,” says Khan. “The use of apps on smartphones has changed lives for young people all over the world, helping their cultural development as well as preventing social isolation. This also creates another avenue to share important information with young people.”
The organisation believes that every South African citizen has a right to access high quality, affordable internet and they have started making this a reality for people in Tshwane.
Project Isizwe has also announced that they will be launching a free Wi-Fi project in the Eastern Cape, which will go live on 17 June.
