Those who believe the local foldable smartphone market is looking a bit sparse will be happy to know that Oppo has now entered the ring. The Oppo Find N2 Flip was launched at a function held at the Cradle of Humankind last week. This is the brand’s first foldable device available locally, joining the Oppo Reno8 (review) as flagships.

From the time we spent with the Find N2 Flip at the launch, there are two standout features - a great cover screen and its large full-screen display. Oh yes, it also looks awesome.

At 3.26” and with a resolution of 720×382 pixels, the secondary screen allows for a decent amount of info to be displayed. For example, you can reply to messages, adjust settings and answer calls without having to open the phone's main screen.

However, the 8.6” AMOLED main display is delicious, offering a chunk of screen real-estate and coming with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels.

The hinge looks solid with Oppo claiming the Find N2 Flip lasted for over 400 000 times in folding tests, with it also being smaller and thinner than the one found on the OG N. The Flexion Hinge can hold angles between 45 and 100 degrees and comes with FlexForm Mode, which allows it to stand and record on its own.

In terms of camera capabilities, the Find N2 Flip is solid, having been co-developed with Hasselblad, a brand known for its classic medium format cameras. It includes a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32 MP selfie camera with autofocus. This enables the user to take high quality selfies with the main camera when the phone is closed and preview them using the cover screen.

With those two screens you’re going to need decent battery life, with the N2 equipped with a decent 4300 mAh battery. We are big fans of Oppo’s supercharge capabilities, so it’s great to see the phone comes with 44W SUPERVOOC fast charging, allowing user to juice the battery to 50% in just 23 minutes.

The phone runs Android 13, with ColorOS 13 providing the user experience on top. Inside is the octo-core MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ 3.2 GHz chipset and 8 GB of RAM doing the heavy lifting.

You’ll find a fingerprint-resistant superior glass cover and a micro-etched wave pattern across the hinge, with the phone folding close to a thickness of 16 mm. It is available in Astral Black and shimmering Moonlit Purple with polished aluminium sides - our choice would definitely be the black one.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is available from R1199 p/m from all network providers for the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage model.
