From game to movie, first trailer for Assassin's Creed arrives
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 12 May 2016 | Categories: news"We work in the dark, to serve the light. We are Assassins." This is how the world premiere trailer for this year's Assassin's Creed movie ends. We first saw images of the hero Callum Lynch/Aguilar (played by Michael Fassbender, X-Men: Apocalypse, donning his Assassin garb in August last year, and now we have a fully fledged trailer.
By the looks of things, this film will draw heavily from the original game, but with a few slight differences. There is no Desmond Miles, as in the first Assassin's Creed game, nor are there the Crusades, with this film instead heading back in time to deal with the Spanish Inquisition.
There is plenty of free running though, as well as some elegant looking kills, which the game is famed for. Whether or not this film can match the same story telling feats as Ubisoft's early Assassin's Creed games remains to be seen. Thankfully though, there is a strong cast to prop up any shortcomings in that regard, if there are indeed any.
Joining Fassbender are Marion Cotillard (Midnight in Paris) as Sophia Rikkin, who serves as Lynch's handler in the real world, as well as Jeremy Irons (Dawn of Justice), playing the ominous and mysterious Alan Rikkin.
With the film slated for a 30 December 2016 release date in the UK, we'll no doubt have a lot more trailers on the way. Until then, enjoy the trailer below, along the weird addition of Kanye West's I am a God.
