This week's gaming news sees a few old favourites returning as Beyond Good & Evil 2 is rumoured once again, new trailers from the Shadow of Mordor and Elise revealed as Assassin's Creed Unity's new female character.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 still on the cards

If you have fond memories of Beyond Good & Evil (BGE) , then here is some good news to see you into the weekend: its long awaited sequel is apparently still on the cards. Ubisoft finally made comments on the pending game, as its creator, Michel Ancel, announced that he will be launching his own studio.

According to Ubisoft, despite or alongside this news, Ancel will apparently continue working with titles that are currently in progress, one of which is, you guessed it, BGE 2. Ubisoft promised that it will have more to share about the game at a later date, as it progresses.

New Shadow of Mordor trailer impresses

The more we see of the impending Shadow of Mordor, the more impressed and excited about this game we become. Along with news that the game has been moved up a month overseas (from October to late September), or as far as South Africa is concerned, the 3rd of October, new trailers have been released to tempt you to return to Middle Earth in two months’ time.

Not convinced yet? Well, then we recommend you take a look at the duo of trailers below. The first (The Wraith trailer) shows how fearsome Talion can be in combat when utilising his wraith abilities, while the newly released The Bright Lord trailer shows more of Talion’s connection to the Dark Lord, Sauron and the Rings of Power. It treats viewers to glimpses of a few familiar faces from The Lord of the Rings and tempts with some additional story details.

After watching the latest trailer, we dare you not to feel amped about the latter half of this year.

New Risen 3: Titan Lords trailer returns to its roots

One role playing game worth watching out for this month is Risen 3. Judging by the latest trailer from Piranha Bytes, Risen 3: Titan Lords, which arrives mid August, there is much to like. The game looks set to immerse players in an expansive, gothic world, while the narrated trailer below (which evokes fond memories of Kingdoms of Amalur) is equally as detailed, walking players through combat, exploration, crafting, the monsters players will have to contend with.

Notably, the studio explains and demonstrates how Risen 3 will incorporate features from its predecessors, and offer players everything from magic, lockpicking, swimming to otherwise hidden areas and a la Risen 1, factions. For us though, it is the inclusion of Crystal Magic that is the hook here, although, if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like there will be plenty on offer.

Elise revealed as new female character in Assassin's Creed Unity

Ubisoft has released a new trailer for its upcoming addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise, Unity, and features one of the main revolution-leading assassins Arno plus a new female character Elise.

Her role in the greater scheme of things is still shrouded in mystery, but Ubisoft confirmed that she will play a significant role in the plot of the game, whether that means she will be a playable female assassin still remains to be seen. If she were to be part of the Assassin's Creed Unity roster, it would be a shrewd move by Ubisoft, who have been lambasted for their lack of playable female characters in Unity.

Take a gander at the trailer below, as we patiently await Assassin's Creed Unity's arrival on 28 October for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Codemasters showcase gameplay trailer for F1 2014

As Nico Rosberg and Mercedes race away with the F1 title, Codemasters has released a new trailer for envious rival fans to rewrite the record books, showcasing the key gameplay elements for its upcoming F1 2014 title. The officially licensed F1 racing title is the culmination of five years’ worth of development and design experience and is set to deliver an even-more realistic racing sensation, according to Codemasters.

That's a lofty claim to live up to, but Codemasters is hoping that its range of enhancements will set it apart from the competition. Some of the key changes for F1 2014 include a new driver evaluation system, which calibrates the game according to the player's level of skill, as well as new circuits being added to the tour.

F1 2014 is slated for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC debut on 17 October 2014, but Codemasters also detailed its forthcoming plans for next-gen consoles. The game developers are set to unveil their new title, 2015 FIA Formula One World Championship, which will be released in the 2015 racing season.

PC trial for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launches locally

Game developer Square Enix, has launched a new initiative to corral a few more PC gamers into its gaming pen, with the launch of a free 14-day trial for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The trial will give PC gamers the opportunity to interact with an online community of more than 2 million users, according to Square Enix, as RPG fans will be flung into the digital word of Eorzea.

Even though the trial is completely free, there will be certain restrictions to the range of gameplay compared to the purchased version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, with players' character growth limited to level 20.

Square Enix has also added a few extras for the more savvy gamer, with a new campaign for its Final Fantasy XIV: Mog Station. If you recruit a friend to subscribe for 30 or 90 days, gamers will receive exclusive in-game content and XP points added to their character.
