By Robin-Leigh Chetty 5 June 2014 | Categories: newsGame of Thrones Dothraki online language course arriving in October
Those wanting to chat up Daenerys Targaryen while speaking Dothraki may be in luck, as a new online language course is set to begin in October, later this year. Never one to miss a chance to further plug its own shows, HBO is designing a Game of Thrones Dothraki dictionary, online courses and mobile app in conjunction with Living Language.
This entire program is officially licensed, with a guide being compiled by renowned language expert David J. Peterson. This guide will feature at least 500 words and phrases, some of which not even appearing in the Game of Thrones series itself.
Set for release in October, the conversational language course is already available for pre-order for $20 (R215). The online course and mobile app, also set for pre-order will cost GOT fans $30 (R320) and $4 (R43) respectively.
Romain Jerome introduces Steampunk Auto Colours watches
Swiss timepiece manufacturer Romain Jerome has unveiled a range of limited edition watches (99 per colour scheme) inspired by the world of Steampunk. Steampunk is best described as a sub-genre of science fiction merging elements from the industrial age and steam-powered machinery into one unique aesthetic. The well-crafted Auto Colours watches are far from cheap and will set Steampunk fans back a staggering $17 000 (R182 000), enough to start a small industrial revolution of your own.
The watches themselves are housed in a black PVD-coated steel case, with the movement mechanism striped down to provide an unobstructed view of the sturdy, bead-blasted blackened bridges on the watch face. The Roman XII (Twelve) and VI (Six) numerals, the logo and the hexagonal crown have been coloured in yellow, white, red, blue, green and orange depending on the model one chooses, with the same colour stitching on the black alligator leather strap.
Leaked set photos for Star Wars: Episode VII surface
It appears as if security on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII is not as good as JJ Abrams would wish, with photos of the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing surfacing online earlier in the week. Abrams was understandably upset about the leaked images, but it does afford us the opportunity to ponder what it all means.
We always knew that some of the cast from the original trilogy would be making an appearance, but the fact that Han Solo's intergalactic ship is also set for duty could mean that his character has a bigger part to play than anticipated. The other side of the argument is that the Millenium Falcon could be used in flashback scenes.
As far as more leaked set photos go, we're sitting on the fence, as a part of us wants to know more precisely what Abrams has planned and the other part also wants to be surprised when we enter the cinemas in December 2015.
Dyson designed Glass-like wearable prototype before Google did
This week, we were greeted by the rather odd news that Dyson designed its very own Google Glass-like prototype close to a decade ago. Yes, Dyson, the manufacturer of vacuum cleaners among other things, designed a working prototype wearable a full ten years before Google had even thought about it. The wearable concept dubbed the Dyson Halo, does bear a striking resemblance to Google's Glass device, with the only notable exception being the headset-esque setup and adjustable microphone stalk.
The augmented reality headset was originally designed by Sir James Dyson in 2001, and was developed to be a portable, wearable computer the size of a pair of glasses. Dyson (the man), has always tinkered with his own unique designs, although many of them never went to market. Perhaps Dyson (the company) will be producing its own competitor to Google wearable, so does anyone know the Dyson equivalent of a Glasshole?
Wachowski's Jupiter Ascending delayed till February 2015
Jupiter Ascending is the Wachowski's (The Matrix, Cloud Atlas) latest sci-fi epic, which was initially set for release on 18 July 2014. The film's release has now been pushed back a full seven months to February 2015. The reason for the move has not been disclosed, but it is a little disconcerting, given the fact that we are only five weeks away from the movie's original release date.
We only hope that the Wachowski's and producers Warner Bros. do not have to postpone yet another time, as the public may soon begin to lose interest in it altogether (although Mila Kunis should prevent this from happening).
For those who may not be aware of what Jupiter Ascending is all about, we've posted the movie official trailer below for your enjoyment.
Scott Derrickson named director for Marvel's Dr. Strange
News from the Marvel movie machine keeps on churning, this week with the announcement of the director slated to helm the Dr. Strange feature film. Marvel has tapped Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Day The Earth Stood Still) to direct the film, with no definitive release date scheduled yet. This appointment comes one week after Edgar Wright, who was originally meant to deliver Ant-Man to the silver screen, walked away from the project.
Dr. Strange is one of the less popularised Marvel characters, but is one that producer Kevin Feige (The Avengers, Iron-Man) has been trying to get onto celluloid for many years now. Dr. Strange's origins differ greatly from the usual superhero tale, as he is imbued by mystic powers and charged as the protector of Earth from all manner of evil magic and demon. Strange could also feature as a character in other Marvel franchises such as The Avengers or Fantastic Four, having teamed up with both superhero groups in multiple comic book iterations.
