If you opened up your Gmail this morning, there could a bunch of irregular looking spam emails. According to Mashable, a number of Gmail users are reporting that their inboxes are being flooded with spam mail that appears to be sent from their own accounts.

This is not the beginning of a story from The Twilight Zone though, with users taking to the Gmail forum in order to make Google aware of the issue. The company has since responded to Mashable, noting that the issue was the result of a spam campaign targeting a small subset of Gmail accounts.

The spammers reportedly used forged email headers to make it look as if they came from the user themselves, along with using a Canadian telecoms company called Telus in order to slip past Gmail spam filters.

Both Google and Telus are working on the issue, but those affected are told not to worry and simply delete the spam messages.
