GoPro's recently unveiled Karma drone has been lapping up much of the attention, particularly as it's the company's first-ever drone. The American manufacturer did not forget its action camera roots, however, also debuting two new offerings alongside the Karma. Respective follow-ups to the Hero4 and Session, GoPro has debuted the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session.

The former is a successor to 2014's wildly popular Hero4, and brings with it a number of improvements to make it appealing for hardened action camera users. Firstly it features a new waterproof body, making good for a depth of 33 ft (10 metres) straight out the box (if you're aiming to go any deeper, you'll be needing a waterproof housing).

It can also be controlled by specific voice commands, allowing users to begin recording or take photos remotely. Added to this is a 2" touch display on the rear for previews of playback and images, as well as a new one button control on-top of the body to start/stop recording. In terms of visuals, it can manage 4K at 30 fps, and also touts image stabilisation technology to keep things steady.

Moving onto the smaller Hero5 Session, which is a follow-up to the compact offering they debuted locally in July last year. This new model is fairly comparable to the Hero5 Black and despite its smaller dimensions it too has a new waterproof body good for up to 10 metres, along with supporting 4K recording, as well as 10 MP photos. There's no onboard display, but it does feature the single button for start/stop recording.

Both the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session will be available in the United States from 2 October onwards, carrying a $399 and $299 price tag respectively. As for when they'll land locally, we're still awaiting confirmation.
