You might be talking to your Xbox already, although we doubt it’s the type of words that Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant will understand. Perhaps you would have to look at your vocabulary, now that Windows Central has reported that Microsoft is soon to extend voice control to these two platforms, alongside Cortana.

They note a reliable source close to the matter and state that a “Digital Assistants” section will appear on the Xbox One menu. An Xbox Skills app needs to be installed before these will work, although it’s still unclear what all the functionality will include.

Previously Cortana worked when connected via Kinect, but since Microsoft killed Kinect, a viable alternative has not been available. For South African gamers, this upcoming support might not mean that much, seeing that neither Amazon or Google’s home assistant speakers have been officially released in the country.

Windows Central notes that an official announcement should be forthcoming “sooner rather than later”.
