Google Frightgeist details Halloween costume trends in the US this past weekend
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 31 October 2016 | Categories: newsThis past weekend was Halloween, and while South Africans' costume choices might have been determined more by the current heat gripping the country, in its spiritual home of the United States however, trick or treaters had more options available. Google too embraced Halloween, revealing a fun little game within a doodle, as well as detailing the costume trends in the States in its Frightgeist webpage.
Via Frightgeist Google, it not only lists the costumes that have proved most popular in North America, but also provided a real-time heat map for outfit choices across the US, along with individual states.
Expectedly, it is Harley Quinn and the Joker which are the highest trending Halloween costumes, first and second respectively, which is likely down to the recent release of Suicide Squad. Another interesting entry on the trending list is clowns, with the creepy memes and videos upping their popularity.
While Frightgeist makes for intriguing reading, hopefully Google Trends will have data for more countries next year.
