Google to ban sexually explicit content on Blogger
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 24 February 2015 | Categories: newsIn a move that follows suit with that made by Vine a few short weeks ago, Google is set to restrict all sexually explicit and graphic content on its blogging platform - Blogger. The message was relayed to select Blogger users via e-mail today, and the action will take effect as of 23 March. After that date, content that is deemed to be sexually explicit or graphic in nature will result in that blog becoming private. Said content can only be viewed by the blog creator, administrative members or any any individuals the blogger has personally shared the content with.
Google did however stipulate some notable exceptions to the zero nudity rule, namely where it's deemed appropriate, such as artistic and scientific contexts. As aforementioned, the move has been linked to a similar action taken by social media platform Vine, which has prohibited the exchange and posting of pornographic materials via their service.
It is a good approach in our opinion, it is still however unclear how this will affect Blogger's user growth, as some experts have said this move will result in would-be users opting for rival services like Tumblr, which has a slew of sexually explicit blogs in its fold at present.
