Amongst photographers, the ‘right bag’ can be a very personal choice, with a plethora of options already available, each catering to different tastes. Now though Gura Gear has announced the launch of its latest addition to its line, the Uinta. According to the company, the new hold-all for one’s precious gear serves users who indulge in both adventure and urban lifestyles.

To this end, the bag can be customised to an extent to hold however much, or little, photo gear is required via the use of Gura Gear’s removable modules. These are available in either medium pro or small pro options, with the former accommodating and cushioning more camera gear than the latter.

Another feature of the bag, which seems to pay homage to adventure trekker users, is that the Uinta has four compression straps, which enable photographers to distribute the pack’s load as is most comfortable.

An exceedingly important part of any photography backpack is the harness system, and Gura Gear has reassured that particular attention has been paid here. Thus it claims that the Uinta’s harness system - which includes a belt and chest straps -  is lightweight, breathable and “comfortable enough for an all day outing.” Also worth noting is that the Uinta can accommodate a notebook computer up to 17”.

As anyone who has used a photo backpack can attest, the one nuisance it brings with it is having to remove one’s pack in order to unload gear or change lenses. The Uinta’s cherry on the top is a clever workaround, which instead enables users to keep the backpack strapped to their waist, swing it around to their front and then access their gear, as the video below shows.

At the moment though, it does not appear to be available locally as yet. However, promisingly, the pack costs $200 (R2 200) Stateside, more than half of the cost of Gura Gear’s Bataflae ($450) which commands a hefty chunk of change at R6 800 over at Outdoorphoto.co.za.
