HBO says Game of Thrones will end in 2018, with spinoff series likely
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 1 August 2016 | Categories: newsIt may be hard for some people to come to grips with, but Game of Thrones will have to end one day. As it turns out, the eighth season of GoT will likely be its last on HBO, with programming president Casey Bloys confirming the news to Entertainment Weekly. Season seven of Game of Thrones is scheduled to hit TVs in June next year.
While a precise airdate for season eight is unknown, it is expected to feature sometime in 2018. Bloys noted that the GoT producers always had a set number of seasons in mind for the TV series adapted from George RR. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice books.
The penultimate and final seasons will also feature fewer episodes than previous versions, consisting of 13 episodes between them , according to Bloys. How many episodes each will have, has not been made clear at this stage. Whether all the fan theories about who will reign victorious will have a chance to play out, also remains to be seen.
As such, fans of the series might need to prepare for withdrawal symptoms now already.
