Since it was taken over by HMD Global, the Nokia Mobile brand has been aggressive in terms of value-for-money devices. Their latest offering in that regard is the Nokia 2, an entry-level smartphone that bets big on battery life and a intriguing price tag of €99 (R1 630).

Regarding the former, the Nokia 2 houses a large 4100 mAh battery which the company says can muster a full two days’ use depending on the circumstances. It should therefore appeal to users that place a premium on battery life, but still don't wish to pay mid-range prices for their phone.

As for the rest of the device, the design is fairly simple with an aluminium frame and a choice of three different colour options. Up front is a 5.0" HD display (1280x720), with a 8 MP primary camera on the rear. Delving a bit deeper, a humble quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor is running things at a clocked 1.3 GHz. Added to that is 1 GB RAM, 8 GB onboard storage and a microSD slot for up to 128 GB extra space.

At this stage, local availability and pricing has not been detailed by HMD Global, but it should be making its way to South Africa in the coming months.
