HTC aims to be first to launch Android Marshmallow device on 20 October
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 30 September 2015 | Categories: news2015 has been a mixed year for Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. After the strong showing of its One (M8) (review) flagship in 2014, the One M9 (review) follow-up struggled to impress as highly. Since its debut at MWC 2015 earlier this year, it has been a little quiet from HTC in recent months, opting to forego IFA 2015 and instead host its own event in October. As such, HTC fanboys should probably diarise 20 October, as the company is cooking up something.
Adding an extra layer of interest is the rumour that this new device will sport the latest version of Android's Marshmallow OS (6.0), being one of the first to do so. As for which product it will be, HTC has remained tight lipped. According to Engadget, they are hedging their bets on the recently leaked 'A9'.
While we cannot confirm the nature of the new device either, logic points to the A9 being the most likely candidate, as the refresh cycle for a new flagship is perhaps too close. Hopefully though, HTC has more than one device to showcase, particularly as the company has struggled to keep pace with its Chinese and South Korean rivals this year.
We'll be live tweeting on the event, which will be happening from 18:00 onwards on 20 October. Be sure to follow us at @TechSmartMag.
