This week, the developer world will have its eyes fixed on San Jose, California. It's the city playing host to Apple's latest edition of WWDC, and will feature a number of software developments that the Cupertino-based company has been working.

Kicking off things will be a keynote this evening at 19:00 (SAST), which has routinely set the tone for what Apple will be engaging with developers on during the rest of the five day-long conference. Here's how to watch it tonight, as well as some of the announcements we're expecting.

First, how to view the keynote live. Streaming will happen via the Apple event minisite, and is only a real option for those using an OS X or iOS device on Apple's Safari browser, provided everything is up to date. You can also watch it via Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, but Chrome users will be relegated to seeing a timeline pop up on screen with real-time announcements. They won't be left out the loop, but it does not quite match the live thing, especially when demos take the stage.

As for what we're expecting to see demoed. Like most of the past years, a new mobile OS is in the offing, with clues for iOS 11 already popping up in the App Store. Other features could be a dark mode for the operating system, as a design overhaul is anticipated. Apple's desktop OS could also see a few changes, but they are believed to be minimal. On the hardware side of things, a much rumoured Siri speaker is being touted, along with refreshes for the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro lineups.

All in all it may not be a groundbreaking WWDC, but there should certainly be a number of noteworthy announcements.
