By Staff Writer 2 June 2017 | Categories: newsSeeing that it's past 12 on a Friday, it's time to let your hair down with this week's hot new trailers and your favourite bottle of tequila. No tequila? Well, you can't always have it all, so just hit play below.
Logan Lucky
8 September (SA)
Kylo Ren, Magic Mike and James Bond walk into a bar. Or actually, they strut into the first trailer for Logan Lucky. This comedy crime caper looks a romp, in no small part to Channing Tatum’s deadpan delivery and Daniel Craig’s portrayal of a slightly deranged blonde bomber.
Best bit: All the twitters, I know them.
Murder on the Orient Express
24 November (SA)
Murder on the Orient Express is considered a classic in the murder mystery genre and firmly established Agatha Christie and her shrewd detective, Hercule Poirot as major page turners. The first trailer for the new movie has now dropped and a sees a formidable ensemble cast boarding the train.
Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Daisy Ridley are all suspects, with Kenneth Branagh as the perceptive detective. Who dunnit? Well, for now our money is on either the missionary or the princess.
Best bit: Poirot scoping out the suspects at 1:00
Krotoa
4 August 2017
Inspired by historical facts, Krotoa tells the heart-breaking tale of an 11-year old Khoi girl who became the official translator for Jan van Riebeeck. Having already bagged eight international awards, expect to hear a lot more of this local movie before its release. Also keep an eye out for Crystal-Donna Roberts (Chronicle), who we would like to see in some Hollywood blockbusters soon.
Best bit: The anguishing moment at 1:52.
Borg/McEnroe teaser
6 September 2017 (Sweden)
Prost vs. Senna, Frazier vs. Ali, Messi vs. Ronaldo, Wile E. Coyote vs. Road Runner – some rivalries bring out the best in each other. This certainly was the case for tennis in the late 70s, early 80s, with the Ice Man, Björn Borg having to deal with that cocky American. The Borg/McEnroe rivalry allowed for some magical tennis, but also lit up the court due to some spectacular outbursts from a truculent McEnroe. For this reason, the hot headed Shia LaBeouf seems like the perfect casting choice, with Swede Sverrir Gudnason (Gentleman) taking on the role of his countryman Borg.
Best bit: The ball was on the line!
The Mountain Between Us
20 October 2017 (USA)
After their plane crashed, Alex Martin (Kate Winslet) and Ben Bass (Idris Elba) find themselves all alone on top of a snow-covered mountain. Should they wait for rescue services, or find their own way to salvation? With a dog somehow also stranded with them, you might want to consult Does the Dog Die? to check if the pooch doesn’t end up as an emergency food supply.
Best bit: Bass getting an earful at 1:13.
Tour de Pharmacy
8 June on HBO
Tour de Pharmacy might carry some big names, but this made for TV movie sure looks the part. That said, it might just be worth a few laughs, especially with Andy Samberg, John Cena, Mike Tyson and Orlando Bloom starring in this cycling mockumentary.
Best bit: The anonymous informer appearing at 0:47.
