Camera comparison: Huawei P10 vs. Huawei P10 Plus

Last night in Johannesburg, Huawei Mobile South Africa launched their latest flagship devices - the P10 and P10 Plus. Both phones were unveiled to a collection of media and retail partners, with them slated to be available locally from tomorrow (12 May). Huawei has also given the recommended price tags for each device, with the P10 listed at R12 999 and P10 Plus at R13 999.

Local carriers also have contract deals available for both of Huawei's flagship devices. Some of the current pricing is as follows:

Vodacom
uChoose Flexi 200 - P10 (R549 p/m) and P10 Plus (R599 p/m)
Red Select+ - P10 (R1 099) and P10 Plus (R1 199 p/m)

MTN
MyMTNChoice+ S - P10 (R599) and P10 Plus (not currently available)

Shifting back to the specifications of the devices, the P10 and P10 Plus feature HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipsets at its core and are similarly styled with newly designed curved aluminium unibodies and a fingerprint sensor up front that also doubles as a capacitive button.

From there though, the devices are a little different. Each has a second gen Lecia-certified dual lens, but the larger 5.5" P10 Plus features the better Summilux lens, compared to the P10's Summarit version.

The former performs better in low light and delivers greater sharpness in a variety of camera modes during our tests. On the memory and power side of things, the P10 Plus is also boasting the edge, with 6 GB of RAM and a 3750 mAh battery. The 5.1" P10 is not underpowered though, featuting 4 GB of RAM and a 3200 mAh unit.

Given the positive response from consumers we saw on Twitter last night during the launch, it's clear that Huawei's status as a smartphone maker is on the rise.
