In Barcelona earlier today, Huawei had a number of flagship devices in tow. Two of these took the form of the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus. The other offerings were more wearable in nature, and included a second iteration of their smartwatch.

Now available in two separate devices, the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic, Huawei's smartwatches place a heavier emphasis on fitness tracking and working independently from one's smartphone.

Both the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic feature a 45 mm wide body and make use of two digital crowns to facilitate navigation and to access specific modes. Added to this is Android Wear 2.0 which makes these new offerings the latest in a small number of compatible smartwatches for the wearable operating system, as well as having Google Assistant thrown into the mix. Furthermore, the display measures 1.2" and sports a resolution of 390x390 with 326 ppi pixel density.

In terms of how these two new devices differ, Huawei has made Classic the slightly heavier of the two at 47 g, with the Watch 2 a lightweight 40 g. The Classic's advantage in the weight stakes comes from the fact that its body is constructed from both plastic and stainless steel.

If, however, you're wanting to operate of these smartwatches sans phone, only the Watch 2 will be available in 4G compatibility. The Watch 2 will also come in eSIM and SIM variants depending on the region. Both devices feature 4 GB of onboard storage though, which can be used to download an estimated 200 songs for listening to while running or working out. There is also activity tracking, although it's best suited to running for now, along with a built-in heart rate monitor and GPS.

Like the P10 and P10 Plus, the Huawei Watch 2 is expected to land in South Africa sometime in March. The exact date, along with the recommended retail price it will carry is unclear at this stage.
