It appears as if Elon Musk's plans to transport people and cargo at a speed of 1126 km/h is inching ever closer. This comes as Hyperloop One completed its first successful test run in the Nevada desert earlier this week. The test run only went 112 km/h, which is a tenth of the purported speed the Hyperloop can theoretically muster, but is still a noteworthy milestone nonetheless.

The test run was able to put the magnetically levitating demo pod to use, as it reached 112 km/h in roughly five seconds. All the other elements of the system passed with flying colours as well, with the vacuum tube that will house the Hyperloop pods, along with the braking and propulsion systems making the grade too.

Hyperloop's next milestone will be trying to reach 402 km/h successfully, with the addition of production-level tube aiding the test. The full-scale tube measures an estimated 3.35 metres in diameter and stretches 487 metres long, providing Hyperloop the necessary length to get the pod up to speed and brake in time.
