Intel reportedly weighing up the launch of smart glasses
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 2 February 2018 | Categories: newsA little over two years ago, Google Glass was the gadget de jour, as wearables became the industry's buzzword. Since then interest in the technology has died down somewhat, replaced by virtual, augmented and mixed reality headsets.
They could, however, be set for a comeback, as Bloomberg Technology reports that Intel is weighing up the launch of its own pair of smart glasses. Internally referred to within the company as "Superlite", they do not sound too dissimilar from Google's offering.
Said to be manufactured in Taiwan by Quanta Computer, the glasses will use a laser projector to beam information onto the heads up interface, and pair with a user's smartphone via Bluetooth.
The finer details on the project are unknown for now, but a reinvestment into the sector by a company of Intel's size could mean more players joining the fray. Amazon for one is also said to be toying with the idea of Alexa-sporting smart glasses.
We'll have to wait though, to see if they come to fruition.
