Love or hate him, Kanye West's influence cannot be denied. The man has helped push Adidas back above Nike in the sneaker and apparel stakes, and his most recent studio album, Life of Pablo, surpassed a significant milestone, according to Pitchfork.

The divisive album, which first released on streaming platform Tidal, and then made its way to other services, has reached platinum status from streams alone, making it the first album to do so. As many as 3 billion streams of the album have been estimated, driven by hype for the most part, as West took several cracks at fine tuning a handful of tracks post-release.

Nevertheless, such a milestone is fairly noteworthy, especially with streaming content looking to be the way forward for TV series, movies and music. With rumours circulating of a new album on the horizon, could it surpass Life of Pablo for number of streams?
