We’re big Nic Cage fans here at the office, and after his superb performance in the utterly fascinating Mandy, we’re really looking forward to his next big movie. Now, finally, the trailer for The Color out of Space has dropped. This is a special one, since the movie is actually based on an H.P. Lovecraft short story, another one of our favourites.

Taking into account the treasure trove of horror Lovecraft is responsible for, he has been painfully underrepresented in mainstream movies, with 1986’s Re-Animator perhaps the most well-known. Can this movie get the ball rolling?

The Color out of Space features Cage as Nathan Gardner, who along with his family moves out of the city onto a farmstead in New England (of course). All is going well until a meteorite comes crashing down on their property, bringing with it a strange transformation of the space around it, and definitely not for the better.

There is a bit of a South African link to the movie with South African-born filmmaker Richard Stanley helming the project. It’s his first time back in the director’s chair since he was sacked by New Line Cinema from 1996’s The Island of Dr. Moreau. From what we can see from the trailer it seems like H.P. Lovecraft’s legacy is in safe hands.

The Color out of Space looks like a mix between Mandy, Pet Sematary, The Shining and Annihilation and should provide horror fans something to look forward to come January 2020. Is this horror a yay or nay? Click below to find out.
