The arrival of DC's Suicide Squad in theatres is still a few months away (4 August), but that hasn't stopped producers Warner Bros. from reportedly greenlighting another spin-off project. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the film will centre around Suicide Squad's Harley Quinn, as played by Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street).

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Robbie will serve as a producer on the project. Although the definitive details are unknown, THR says the film would focus on a number of DC's superheroines and their female villain counterparts, with names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey being bandied about.

DC has always had a strong group of female characters on its roster, including the likes of Wonder Woman (recently seen kicking ass in Dawn of Justice), who also has a standalone film coming out early next year, as well as Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Supergirl and others. As such, the move to make a film focusing on a number of these characters makes sense. With Batman v Superman (review) proving a critical failure earlier in the year, perhaps a female ensemble DC film is just what fans and critics have been looking for.
