Mark Millar is one of the most celebrated comic book creators in the business. His work has been ripe for the picking for films, with movies like Wanted, Kingsman: Secret Service and Kick-Ass being adapted from his comic books. It's the latter which draws our attention today, as Millar has said that Kick-Ass is relocating to a new city, as well as getting a black female lead as part of a semi-reboot of sorts.

The move, as detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, is driven by the lack of racial and gender diversity in the pop culture genre, according to Millar. "Being older or younger or female or African-American just seems more interesting to me as a writer because this character is quite unique and opens up story possibilities that hasn't been tried in almost eighty years of superhero fiction," notes Miller. Adding, "this woman has a completely different take on Kick-Ass." 

For Millar, Kick-Ass is not simply the story of one young boy (Dave Lizewski in the comic books), but rather a legacy character or symbol, much like James Bond. As such, the character can be reborn, in various different guises, as the Kick-Ass is more an idea than a person. 

While there is no definitive date for the new Kick-Ass, the series will be penned by Millar and illustrated by John Romita Jr., who worked with the Scotsman on previous projects. Just like female Thor, we're hoping fans respond well to the character change.
