If you thought Civil War was Marvel's final big release for 2016, you'll be pleasantly surprised to know that Doctor Strange is also on the way. 4 November to be more precise, enlisting the talents of Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek: Into Darkness) in the titular role. To date two full length trailers have come courtesy of Marvel as Dr. Stephen Strange enters a mind-bending world. 

Doctor Strange is also the first instance where magic will feature in any of the Marvel extended universe of films, but a new TV spot also teases the notion of the multiverse. "You think that this material universe is all there is. But what if I told you the reality you know, is one of many?" This is the question that The One (Tilda Swinton) poses to Stephen Strange before he begins his journey.  

For those unfamiliar with the concept, the multiverse is Marvel's term for parallel dimensions within their own comic book universe. It's why we have the likes of Miles Morales, and not Peter Parker, for the Spider-Man Ultimate universe, or indeed a female Thor. 

As for how deep Marvel will go into the lore of the multiverse, remains to be seen, but its inclusion in Doctor Strange does open up a world of possibilities. As such, when the current crop of Avengers feel like calling it quits, it will open up the opportunity for Marvel to introduce its All-New, All-Different Avengers for example.
