Mega Man gets his own shoe courtesy of Asics
By Staff Writer 29 October 2019 | Categories: newsSneaker and video game collabs are nothing new, with Puma and Sonic teaming up just the other day for the Puma x SEGA RS-0 Sonic. For gamers of a particular age, the joys of playing Mega Man on a console is one of their earliest gaming memories. And if you’re also a sneakerhead, well, does Asics now have the shoe for you.
According to Sneaker Freaker, developer Capcom has teamed up with the sponsor of the Springbok kit to create the Capcom x ASICS GEL-BND sneaker. The shoe uses the Asics GEL-BND silhouette with its chunky midsole (an update of a heritage model) and blends it with the Mega Man blues, finished off with an 8-bit interpretation of the Asics stripes on the side.
Fans of the game will notice that the shoe is packaged in a box that carries the original Japanese artwork from the 1987 Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge.
The shiny uppers and the Dad Shoe vibes might not be to everyone’s liking, but it is reminiscent of Mega Man’s futuristic boots. The Capcom x Asics Mega Man sneaker is sure to pull in the customers, especially in its native Japan, where Mega Man is better known as Rockman. Actually, Japan is the only place where these sneakers will be made available come 1 November. These Asics are set to retail for ¥12 000, which is in the region of R1 700.
