Electric and autonomous vehicles are certainly the future of motoring, but every once in awhile, it's nice to revel in the present. To that end, we present to you the new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-R, which the Stuttgart-based carmaker developed in "Green Hell," otherwise known as the infamous Nürburgring. 

While some say developing a car on a racetrack makes it a terrible drive for normal roads, seeing the AMG GT-R anywhere besides a track just seems wrong. Apart from looking menacing as anything on four wheels we've encountered of late, the AMG GT-R is packing a twin-turbocharged V8 under the bonnet that produces roughly 430 kW of power. 

Added to this is a lightweight construction, resulting in a total weight of 1630 kg. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz has provided the GT-R with rear wheel drive and a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. All this results in a 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds and limited top speed of 318 km/h. Having been honed at the Nürburgring, it would've been nice if the German company detailed how fast it got round the track. 

The AMG GT-R is set to go on pre-order from 21 November this year, reaching select regions on March 2017. No word on whether a few will land in South Africa, but seeing how price is on enquiry, numbers will likely be limited.
