Mercedes-Benz appears to be readying for a deeper dive into the world of electric vehicles. The company acquired a stake in EV manufacturer Tesla Motors in 2012, but could now be a fully fledged rival for the Elon Musk-headed company. According to motoring.co.au, which spoke to Mercedes' David McCarthy, the German carmaker could have an electric vehicle to unveil in September, just in time for the Paris Motor Show.

Although McCarthy has not seen the EV in its entirety, he has disclosed some specifications. Firstly, that it will be priced in the same bracket as the current S-Class from the the Stuttgart-based company. He added that it may arrive in 2018, and could also sport the same driving range as the S-Class.

While the prospect of a luxury EV with 350-plus kilometre driving certainly sounds enticing, McCarthy warns that there might not be that much drama about the car, as far as design goes. As such, anyone expecting something akin to the IAA shape-shifting concept, may be left disappointed.
