Microsoft Office can now work on all Play Store-compatible Chromebooks
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 27 November 2017 | Categories: newsIf you happen to own a Chromebook, depending on the model, you've likely been frustrated by the lack of support for Microsoft Office apps on the device. While Chromebooks are essentially designed as a platform to showcase Google's cloud-based and productivity-focused offerings, Microsoft Office did arrive on the devices a little over a year ago.
Unfortunately, the Android app support only extended to a handful of Chromebook models such as the Pixelbook and Asus Chromebook Flip, which again left many users frustrated. According to Chrome Unboxed, however, that is going to change, with the Microsoft Office Suite now available to all Play Store-compatible Chromebooks.
With Chromebooks designed for those at school for the most part, having access to the Microsoft tools is a necessity, especially as most learning institutions and school projects favour working on that particular system.
At this stage, it's unclear if there will be a phased approach to availability or indeed a waiting period for the rollout, but at least the thing that many Chromebook users have been baying for is finally here.
