Earlier this month, following an investor call, it was revealed that Snapchat was due for an extensive redesign. It's still unclear when that change will take effect, but any plans in the pipeline do not seem to have slowed down new filters for the app.

To that end, Mashable stumbled upon some surreptitiously released filters for the social media that are able to recognise animals and food.

With object detection a significant part of the mobile experience in recent months, the release of Snapchat filters that do the same make a lot of sense.

The system is slightly different to the location-based geofilters that Snapchat has in its locker, with the main difference being that it utilises an object-detection patent that Snap Inc. picked up recently, according to Engadget.

Whether or not people will be clamoring to put this feature to use remains to be seen, especially given its low-key release, That said, we can certainly see brands leverage the technology to their own ends and try to get users to engage with their product.
