Microsoft follows Google and Facebook in removing pistol emoji
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 26 April 2018 | Categories: newsThe debate around guns has intensified in the United States over the past few years, and in a bid to subtly illustrate their views on the subject, tech companies like Google and Facebook have opted to ditch the pistol-looking emoji from their platform in favour of something that looks more toy-like.
Now Microsoft is doing the same thing for Windows, with the company taking to Twitter to announce that some changes to the look of their emoji are on the way.
We are in the process of evolving our emojis to reflect our values and the feedback we’ve received. Here’s a preview: pic.twitter.com/BlB3yYTSht

Microsoft have not mentioned when this change will take effect, but they have followed the direction taken by the likes of Apple, Samsung, WhatsApp and Twitter by altering their regular looking gun to a water-firing version.
While these changes won't bring about swift change in the US' gun laws, at least tech companies are looking to do their small part.
