Motorola readying return of iconic Razr flip phone
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 23 May 2016 | Categories: newsIn fifty years from now, when they look at the most significant smart and feature phones to ever grace the hands of consumers, which models are sure to make the list? The Nokia 3310? iPhone 4s? Galaxy Note II? Our bet is certainly on Motorola's iconic Razr flip phone. Sold over a period of 12 years, the different models accumulated an estimated 130 million in unit sales. If that's not enough to get you into the phone Hall of Fame, we don't know what is.
For those thirsting for a bit of nostalgia, Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) recently released a video showcasing the Razr in all its glory. The video is accompanied by the date 06.09.16, which just so happens to be when Lenovo has its annual Tech World conference. As such, it's led some to believe that a special edition version of the Razr will make a debut, but precisely what form that will take remains to be seen.
Motorola currently has an update registration page, where more details will be shared with interested consumers when the time comes. While the new rumoured Razr device is unlikely to eclipse the numbers set by the original, it could prove a great way to get consumers talking about the Motorola brand again, which has seen its popularity shrink significantly in recent years.
