Peugeot South Africa has extended its popular 208 compact hatchback lineup courtesy of the three-door Access 1.0 model. This more affordable variant is tasked with bringing 208 ownership within the budget reach of a wider audience.

Powering the Access 1.0 is a 999 cc three-cylinder engine that delivers 50 kW at 6000 RPM and 95 Nm of torque at 3000 RPM. That power is sent to the front wheels via the car’s five-speed manual gearbox.

The 208 Access 1.0 VTi brings up 100 km/h on its speedometer in an unhurried 14 seconds, with the top speed being 163 km/h. More importantly though is the 208 Access 1.0 VTi’s claimed combined-cycle (town and highway driving) fuel usage figure of 4.3 litres per 100 km.

The 208 looks pretty distinctive from the back thanks to the smooth roofline, sculpted sides and the boomerang-shaped tail lights.

Pricing

The three-door Peugeot 208 Access 1.0 VTi costs R147 500, which includes a three-year warranty, as well as Peugeot’s Premium Plan, which is a 5 year or 60 000 km maintenance plan.

Standard equipment includes electric front windows, central locking, Isofix child seat mounts, and an on-board trip computer. ABS brakes with EBD and dual front airbags for the driver as well as the front passenger are also standard features.
