A little over two years ago, before the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off in Brazil, Nike Football unveiled the radical Magista boot. Designed with a flyknit upper, the boot was ultra lightweight and promised a enhanced degree of control for creative midfielders. Now, a follow up has debuted, the Magista 2, which is said to continue the evolution of how football in played, according to Nike.

That's a lot of hype to live up to, so what new technologies has Nike Football integrated into this brightly coloured offering?

According to Nike Football designer Phil Woodman, with the Magista 2, “we were focused on sensory amplification through feel,” he notes. In order to so, Woodman worked with Nike's Sports Research Lab to define which parts of the foot were more touch sensitive, and mapping them against areas of the boot that are termed as "high-touch zones".

The result are the numerous peaks and troughs on the newly designed upper, which Woodman says, works as an extension of the foot itself. The upper is also constructed from Nike's signature Flyknit material, as well as featuring a new collar to accommodate the ankle bone of the foot.

All this, will be available to would-be registas (Italian for playmaker) on 24 July via the Nike Football app. For now, Nike Football South Africa has not confirmed when they will hit South African retailers, but they are expected to retail for R3 099.95.
