Nintendo NX rumoured to be a mobile-console hybrid
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 19 October 2015 | Categories: newsThe promise of a new Nintendo console has been doing the rounds for quite some time now. The Japanese company was anticipated to reveal more details about its NX (codename) console at E3 earlier this year, but information on the device was conspicuous by its absence. Since then, Nintendo has stayed mum on the subject, but new reports from the Wall Street Journal say the console will sport "industry-leading chips."
Although the nature of the chips themselves is not disclosed, the move is believed to place the NX on a better footing with the likes of the Xbox One and PS4, according to The Verge. Added to this, the NX console is also rumoured to sport a mobile aspect to its design, that can either be used in conjunction with the console or used separately. As such, it sounds like the NX console could expand a bit further on the idea of the Wii U, which had a GamePad interface for specific titles.
Perhaps adding further credence to this mobile gameplay element, is the fact that Nintendo has begun to focus a bit more on the mobile gaming sides of things. To that end, a console that could switch seamless between console and handheld gameplay could be quite intriguing indeed. While a fixed reveal or release date for the NX console still remains a mystery, more information will no doubt arrive in the next year.
